The article analyses the modern activity of district administrations in the cities, their legal status and the status of the chief of administration, his orders and powers, status of the meetings of administration as collegiate body, form and legal status of act of district administration, different commissions and their activity. These aspects are analyzed according to the Law of Ukraine «About local government in Ukraine» and other juristic acts in the branch of local government. There is an analysis of creation district administrations in cities as intermediate form of administration of cities with district division and the effectivity of administrations according to modern demands of government. There is analysis of using district administrations in the cities as transitional process from district councils to elimination of district division. The aim of this research is definition of advisability of existence of district administrations in the cities as intermediate form of government of the city without special status. Modern practice of activity of district administrations in the cities shows that they are able to provide deconcentration of government functions at the level of districts in the cities.
