Aims and objectives: To examine the nature of faith and optimism and to discuss their role in coping with stress and critical life events. Methods: Philosophical and conceptual analyses. Results: Both faith and moderate optimism exhibit properties, which are protective against distress and stressful life events. However, prudent faith tends to be better for whole person’s functioning.
