Let the Hen Crow, Not Just the Rooster: Memory, Women, and Land

Women from rural areas have played a significant role in the construction of the Colombian territory. For this reason, their life experiences and their resistance to the armed conflict deserve to be told and taken into account in collective memories. Drawing on these narratives, gathered in the context of the research project on land and conflict carried out by the Historical Memory Group of the National Commission for Reparation and Reconciliation in Córdoba, Sucre, and the Montes de María region, the article examines the implications and impact of women’s narrations of the conflict. The narratives also make visible their organizational processes as resistance actions aimed at enforcing their rights to land and landholding.
