<p class="western" lang="it-IT" align="justify"><span style="font-family: Garamond, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">The article aims to examine how following a natural disaster, in this case the 2009 earthquake in Abruzzo (Central Italy), the reconstruction can be directed towards different projects that may have as a result the reconstitution of the affected communities, or their dispersion.</span></span></p><p class="western" lang="it-IT" align="justify"><span style="font-family: Garamond, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">In the first case we will examine the importance of tradition in the reconstruction project implemented by the Goriano community in the province of L’Aquila to give meaning to the affected areas, also through witness’ interviews. In the case of L’Aquila, on the other hand, we opted for the construction of a polycentric new town, which in fact dispersed people and disrupted the social structure.</span></span></p>
