This paper presents an artistic and scientific collaboration between a visual artist and an art sociologist, in the context of an art residency. It questions notions of subjectivity and creativity in art, through a dialogue between both fields. The researcher’s method of participant observation and his sociological objectivity are questioned, within the artistic process. The collaboration finally leads to a blurring of statuses and actors in their practices : the scientific concept and materials, films and photographs becoming part of the final exhibition through video art pieces and text sculptures. The dynamics of artistic creation is thus examined in details.
