Summary: | The single crystals of 2-amino-5-chloropyridine tetrachloromercurate [HgCl4]2− [C5H6 N2Cl]2+, an inorganic-organic hybrid derivative have been achieved by solution growth through slow cooling process. The hybrid inorganic-organic material exists in the P21/c symmetry and is stabilized by holding the inorganic component (tetrachloromercurate) with the organic moiety (2-amino-5-chloropyridine) through non-covalent interactions. The FESEM analysis shows spatial morphology of the crystalline material with average particle size of 7.629 μm and solidity of 0.87. The direct energy band gap of 3.56 eV as calculated by UV–Vis absorption spectra and band gap electronic transitions from 3.11 to 2.07 eV as calculated by photoluminescence spectra predict that this hybrid material has potential electro-optical properties.
