Description
Summary:In this article the author considers some specificity and evolution of medieval engraving that forced out bookish miniature at certain phase and promoted the appearance of an icon-engraving on the paper and farther their spreading. The appearance of such icons in the Orthodox world has become possible due to European issues of 1650 (The Bible ofPiscator Jan Visher) and the Bible of Ectip Christopher Weigel (1695). In medieval Moldova the development of this type of art is connected with the foundation of Yassky typography in 1642 and illustration of Kazanii of metropolitan Varlaam by the engraving of Ukrainian monk Elias in 1645.
