Summary: | The aim of this study is to analyze the integration of the words borrowed from French into Turkish language. The study proposes a hierarchical typology, beginning with the borrowed words that are less integrated into Turkish, and moving all the way to the borrowed words that are thoroughly integrated so much so that the native speakers cannot identify them as borrowed words. In order to understand the mechanisms linked to the phenomenon of borrowing, we will present the main characteristics of Turkish linguistic reform and indicate two primordial particularities of the Turkish language: vocal harmony and agglutination. Then we will try to examine the process of integration in Turkish language on two levels: semantic adaptation and grammatical adaptation.
