Summary:This article is important and necessary to contribute to the realization of independent work in higher education. By applying empirical research methods, including participant observation, open interviews and the survey, it was found that there are inadequacies in educational practice revealed in the performance of the teachers of the subject Art. Its objective is the development of teaching guidelines for the conduct of independent work in the subject Cuban Art in the process of universalization of higher education and its realization in the development of study guides. The new release is given in the interdisciplinary, systematic, planned, flexible and creative character of teaching guidelines for conducting independent work, teacher-student close relationship with its application in the profession. The effectiveness of teaching guidelines allowed improving the teaching-learning process in the following areas: the adequacy of knowledge of the discipline in its relationship with other disciplines, the links between the subject Cuban Art and other subjects and teachers´ preparation to teach. The systematic application of the teaching guidelines in the study guides, led to satisfactory results in the quality of teaching-learning process, and changes in teachers´ performance.
