Summary: | The article examines NATO’s policies and activities in the context of the COVID- 19 pandemic. Along with the necessary organizational adaptation of the civil and military decision- making structures, NATO has primarily focused on practical measures in response to the spread of the pandemic. Then the Alliance has shifted its agenda towards core tasks of defence and deterrence, challenged by external «destabilizing» influence of both governmental and non- governmental actors. It became the central agenda of the NATO Defence Council on June 17-18, 2020. Along with the tasks of countering the Russian challenge, NATO has concentrated on «the rise of China», notably as «a global major military power». As part of the ongoing «NATO-2030» strategic analysis, a goal of a «more global» Alliance is put forward, which, as the author argues, contrasts with its eroding cohesion and solidarity.
