The electromechanical characteristics for synchronous operation were calculated, as were the start-up characteristics for operation with a short-circuited rotor winding. Two model motors were used for the calculations, the V-shaped Permanent Magnet (VPM) – Fig. 3, and the Linear Permanent Magnet (IPM) – Fig. 4, both rated at 14.5 kW.
