Summary:This article discusses the influence of ultra-Orthodox youth of the Diaspora, the houtznikim, which came to spend one or two years in an Israeli yeshiva, on “indigenous” groups. They have themselves incorporated elements of the surrounding cultures, so they bring in their luggage lifestyles, fashions and customs influenced by the general society to which their communities have faced. These influences relate in particular to the body, the gender and the sexuality. Eating habits are another area addressed. Finally, the very core of social and cultural basis of this sector, namely education and study, provides a good example of the mechanisms at work.
