Summary: | The study aims at describing personal and communal attitudes of Madurase people towards carok and reasons causing carok. The study is descrptive involving 195 Madurase and using observation, questionnaire, and interview. Based on the analysis, it was found that 4 Madurase personal attitudes toward carok involve (1) not loving to have carok tradition, 75% accepting, 18.33% rejecting, 6.66% hesitating, (2) not doing carok in any reason, 60% accepting, 31.11% rejecting, 8.88% hesitating, (3) solving all cases wisely without doing carok, 77.38% accepting, 14.20% rejecting, 8.41% hesitating, dan (4) not doing carok because of being obedient to state and religious rules 77.40% accepting, 11.66% rejecting, 10.92% hesitating. While 5 Madurase communal attitudes toward carok involve (1) carok is not Madurase tradition, 64.16% accepting, 25.55% rejecting, 10.27% hesitating, (2) Madurase community love peace, 81.11% accepting, 7.22% rejecting, 11.66% hesitating, (3) carok does not represent Madurese, 86.11% accepting, 10% rejecting, 3.88% hesitating, (4) carok is bad conduct violating rules, 82.44% accepting, 9.33% rejecting, 8.22% hesitating, and (5) solving all cases wisely without carok, 76.11% accepting, 13.88% rejecting, 10% hesitating. Besides, it was found that the motives causing carok are (1) women, (2) misunderstanding, (3) inheritance, (4) belief, (5) theft, and (6) debt. |
