Through a case study, whose empirical sources are the parish records Matrix Sao José do Rio das Mortes and 9 more chapels additional, as well as a Rol de Confessados de São Joze dated 1795, seeks to examine the representation of slavery; its sociological dimensions, in colonial society. At the same time, it examines the compositions of the African population of the parish and its demographic changes over the second half of XVIII.
