Systematically, the two genera are only distantly related; <i>Eurycormus</i> belongs to the Teleosteomorpha, whereas <i>Eurypoma</i> is a halecomorph closely related to or a member of the Caturoidea within the Amiiformes. <br><br> Drei oberjurassische Actinopterygier-Arten, <i>egertoni, grandis</i> und <i>speciosus</i>, werden gewöhnlich zur Gattung <i>Eurycormus</i> gestellt.
