| Summary: | The aim of this study is to present the theoretical perspectives that enabled the elaboration of a
Characterization Map of Scientific Text and, in addition, to describe its application in the analysis
of a research article published in the periodical Química Nova (Brazilian Chemical Society). The
analysis revealed that the article exhibits the characteristics of the scientific text indicated on the
map, verifying the appropriateness of the theoretical perspectives adopted in its elaboration: works
of Latour (2000), Coracini (2007), Campanario (2004), and Oliveira e Queiroz (2007). We
concluded that the Map is an analytical tool that allows structural and rhetorical features in
scientific text to be identified. It can be used to help undergraduate chemistry students recognize
many features of scientific language and improve their scientific writing. Finally, the map can be
used as a tool for the assessment of scientific texts produced by students. |
