Summary:In recent years it has increased the interest of the Government of Colombia for education as a tool for reducing the social gap; as a recognized part of the problem to dropping out in Higher Education. The Facultad de Minas- FM , is part of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia -UN, this has 12 undergraduate programs, which are responsible for much of the training in the engineering of the region and the country; This training process is not unrelated to the problem of dropping out, for 2011 the headquarters of the UN Medellin was at 50.1% attrition cohort and FM on average 47.4% , a figure that is above the national target , 40% proposed by the Colombian state for 2010 (Ministerio de Educación Nacional-MEN, 2006). This article aims to present a methodology to mitigate attrition levels based on the characterization of possible deserter and a system to alert early -SAT , which is designed based on the analysis of factors and components rotated on academic and socioeconomic data of students They defected from the first period of 2009 and the second period of 2013.
