Description
Summary:
Background: the academic impact of the Cuban scientific publications, measured through citation indexes, is very low. In this context, the evaluation of scientific journals is an urgent need.

Objective: to describe the results of the self-evaluation conducted on the running of the Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Vidaurreta Electronic Journal, during 2016 and the first semester of 2017.

Methods: a descriptive study on the running of the aforementioned journal was carried out during the declared period of time, using as an instrument of evaluation the established indicators for Cuban journals belonging to the Editorial de Ciencias Médicas, in its version 1.9.

Results: the 28 established indicators were evaluated. The 16 indicators regarding the informative aspects of the magazine and completion of the electronic platform obtained the highest rating. The composition of the editorial committee meets the requirements of institutional heterogeneity, but does not have international members. Out of 8 indicators that measure, mainly, the running of the editorial team and the management of the journal, 6 have the highest rating; achieving the periodicity and the level of indexation obtained four points, according to the operationalization defined for these variables. The two indicators concerning the internationalization of the authors did not score, being far from what was required. According to the total points, the journal ranks in the second group of the first level (A2).

Conclusions: the journal has the best results for the completion and management of the electronic platform. The only three indicators assessed as bad are related to internationalization, the members of the editorial committee and the authors.
