Summary: | In the conversation that serves as a prelude to El coloquio de los perros, Campuzano and Peralta discuss the disconcerting statute of this strange story. The arguments exposed by the first to justify his fiction correspond to the ideas present in several poetic books of the time. These postulates that serve as a framework for the last exemplary novel emphasize its metapoetic aspect. This article aims to read the Coloquio in connection with the ideas displayed by Campuzano, trying to analyze the consequences those notions acquire on the fictional level. Principally, our work will investigate the significance of interpreting the Coloquio in relation to the generic tradition of literary dreams. Likewise, we consider that the dialogue between Cipión and Berganza is a fragmentary and syncretic text, in which many of the theoretical concerns present throughout the Novelas ejemplares are cited. Therefore, we will try to offer a reading that takes into account its particular context of closing novel in the collection that it integrates.
