Summary:Starting from the need for greater awareness of the harmful effects of a Brazilian language policy, which preaches a monolingual practice through standard standard prescription, and that, by disregarding the heterogeneous aspect of language, favors the occurrence of discrimination and prejudice attitudes language, the purpose of this article, using the methodology of literature review is to propose a reflection on the linguistic variations known as slang (CABELLO, 1991; PRETI 1984, 1998, SERRA, 2005), through the slang definitions of some grammarians and dictionary Portuguese (CEGALLA, 1985; BECHARA, 1999; MICHAELIS, 2008; HOUAISS, 2009). Will also be analyzed the theories of some scholars on the linguistic discrimination phenomenon (BAGNO, 2004; MONTEIRO, 2000), in relation to language varieties that are beyond the rule imposed by the cultured and standard standard (BAGNO, 2002; FARACO, 2002 2008).
