| Summary: | In the summer of 1935 a college cruiser departed from Marseille’s port to the “Far East”. The final destination was Japan. This was a trip sponsored by the University of Barcelona, but open to the general public, not just students. In it were two travellers —Francisco de las Barras de Aragon (1869- 1955) and Eudald Serra (1911-2002)— with the same final destination (Kobe), but with completely different goals and dreams. A same trip but with completely different results, as appears from the personal records of both figures: for Francisco de las Barras de Aragon it was an interesting sightseeing trip but for Eudald Serra it marked a momentous transformation in the course of his lifetime. De las Barras returned, while Serra remained in Kobe, on a “trip” that lasted thirteen years.
