Summary: | This contribution brings together the concepts of heterogeneity and homeland and explores their constitution in the literature. The basis of the discussion is the observation that, at the literary level, complexity and diversity determine the current patterns of belonging as well as its artistic expression, in contrast to today’s excessive discourses on the ‘own’ and the ‘alien’ in the social and mass media. Taking attempts like Dorothee Kimmich’s World’s Literature, as well as (among others) Blickle’s conceptions of homeland (Heimat) as a starting point, the potential and forms taken by heterogeneity and homeland will be analysed on the basis of the example of Terezia Mora’s novel Das Ungeheuer (“diagnosis of the age”). |
