Description
Summary:Innovation is one of the most debated subjects in both academia and the marketplace due to its significance for the economy and for serving as a guiding element for corporate sustainability. In the face of this, this study aimed to verify if innovation has any influence in the return on the investments made by Brazilian corporations reputed to be the most innovative. In this exploratory study, the sample was composed of Brazilian companies from various economic sectors designated as innovative according to a set of rankings of differing methodologies. The period of analysis was between the years of 2010 and 2014. The results showed innovation has positive and statistically significant impact on the return on investment, confirming the hypothesis that to invest in innovation adds competitive value and advantage to companies facing marketplace unpredictability. However, there was no evidence for a link between innovation and the persistence of the lagged returns.
