The architecture of mosques, tombs and religious schools is the manifest of these elements. Formation and development of Islamic sects in Iran have an influential role in the formation of cities. The article has studied the spacial organization of Isfahan, from the beginning of Abbasid reign to the end of Saljuq era, to recognize the role of religious attitudes in city formation. Furthermore, the effect of different religious attitudes on physical changes of the city in the three periods, i.e., Abbasids, Buyids and Saljuqs is studied, taking advantage of a historical descriptive-analytical method based on written and archeological sources. The results of the survey note that different religious attitudes of each period has caused special construction developments which have led to serious harms to constructions related to its previous period.http://jhr.ui.ac.ir/article_16626_96b0caf5068a4eac64745b82c40e42da.pdfIsfahanThe Abbasid CaliphateBuyid GovernmentSaljuqsReligious Attitudescity
