Summary:International recommendations for diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases, mostlyissued by the World Health Organization, are general and verified. National guidelines,which are more frequently revised, take into account the possibilities of each country toadopt new and more effective methods for management of these conditions. Among themost recently published guidelines dealing with essential thrombocythaemia in theEuropean Union are guidelines of the Czech Haematological Society for diagnosis andtreatment of chronic myeloproliferative disorders with thrombocythaemia. This article isconcerned with Slovene guidelines for diagnostic evaluation and management of patientswith essential thrombocythaemia, which are currently under consideration by theSlovenian Society of Haematology.
