Summary: | The media have shown lately the problem of Brazilian women trade to work in brothels in Europe. Although it is seen as a current issue, the « white slave trade » as it became known historically dates back to the nineteenth century. Our work aims to show how it has developed during this time in reverse, ie bringing European women to Brazilian brothels, more specifically in Rio de Janeiro. Recruited with promises of good jobs or advantageous marriages, they became prey to powerful mafias led by Jews from Eastern Europe, Portuguese and Brazilian. From Rio de Janeiro, they went to brothels of Montevideo and Buenos Aires. Living in miserable conditions, and target of violence, trade prostitutes marked an era in the Rio venal sexuality scenario.
