Summary: | This study provides a brief panorama of the Madrid Literary Criticism from 1800-1808, explored within its political context. The political divergences were associated with theoretico-literary differences. The modernity of the diverse political paradigms had close similarities in the literary sphere with lesser or greater critical reception facing the significant changes that were taking place in both the literary world and general poetics. In sum, this paper explains how the eighteenth-century current binary opposition—classicism/baroque—turns into a triple model, which could be formulated as Baroque/Classicism/Pre-Romanticism. |
