Summary: | <p><strong>Background</strong>: ischemic cerebrovascular disease is a health problem that also generates a negative impact from the social point of view.</p><p><strong>Objective</strong>: to characterize the patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease admitted to the multipurpose intensive care unit of the “Dr. Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja” of the province of Camagüey, from October 2017 through October 2019.</p><p><strong>Methods</strong>: an observational, descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study was carried out with patients of the aforementioned institution and during the period herein stated. The study universe consisted of 53 of these patients. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data.</p><p><strong>Results</strong>: atherothrombotic infarction was the most frequent subtype (50,94 %), with a predominance of the male sex (73,58 %) and the 60 to 74 age group (49,05 %). Hypertension was the most prevalent comorbidity (86,79 %). Motor deficit was the most frequent sign at admission (92,45 %). Pneumonia (39,62) and intracranial hypertension (28,3 %) were the most common complications when patients were discharged alive (88,67 %). Out of the six patients who died, four had a cardioembolic stroke.</p><p><strong>Conclusions</strong>: the patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease of the study were characterized, where hypertensive patients, admitted with motor deficit, predominated.</p>
