Summary:The problems related to water resources has been the scene of debates due to steady deterioration of water quality and increase in demand. This study aimed to analyse the influence of land use and occupation in the water quality of the main rivers of the Environmental Protection Area (EPA) Itupararanga (SP), Brazil. Therefore, analyses were carried out of the main parameters and water quality indices, as well as the mapping of the use and occupation of land. The results revealed that the sanitary sewage conditions of the municipalities of the EPA Itupararanga and agricultural uses classes are negatively affecting the water quality.
