In this study, the protective role of caraway hydroalcoholic extractin heart and kidney injuries in experimental inflammation model induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) was examined.<strong><em></em></strong></p><p> </p><p><strong><em>Methods: </em></strong>For the purpose of this study, the rats were divided into five groups i.e: Sham-operated (SOP); CLP; CLP+hydroalcoholic extract (50&100 mg/kg) and CLP+Indomethacin (10mg/kg) as positive control. The extract and indomethacin were injected i.p immediately after sepsis induction. 24 hours after CLP, the rats were sacrificed and their hearts, kidneys and plasma were removed and analyzed. The differences between the results were assessed by one-way ANOVA test followed byTukey’s HSD.<strong><em></em></strong></p><p> </p><p><strong><em>Results: </em></strong>The results of this study showed that lipid peroxidation (LP) in kidney and alsoplasmaurea/creatinine ratio were increased in CLP rats. In contrast, the glutathione (GSH) level of kidney was not changed indicating the partial damage of kidney tissue due to sepsis. Unlike indomethacine, treatment of rats with both doses of caraway hydroalcoholic extract did not modulate these parameters. <strong><em></em></strong></p><p> </p><p><strong><em>Conclusion: </em></strong>It can be concluded that treatment of septic rats by caraway hydroalcoholic extract immediately after sepsis induction via i.p route cannot modulate parameters related to kidney damages.So, this extract is not able to protect the kidney tissue against oxidative injuries induced by sepsis.<strong><em></em></strong></p><p><em> </em></p>http://journal.muq.ac.ir/en/index.php/jmuqen/article/view/165
