Summary:<p dir="ltr"><span>This article questions the emphasis of masculinity in the definition of the flaneur who moves as comfortable as in the household and leads to the questioning of the role of the urban environment in this construction. Framework of the article consists of the flaneur figures seen in Late Ottoman Literature and Turkish Literature before 1980s. The questionings concentrate on features of flaneur figure who can shake the system by the shock-factor of his actions. In this way the reasons underlying flaneur’s reluctance to challenge patriarchal system which organizes the social domain on behalf of its partner, industrialization and its economic effects on society, which takes place as a direct opponent of flaneur’s individual rebel. The article analyzes the different constructions of flaneur image in different periods in changing urban dynamics by a comparative method that considers the spatio-temporal transformation through time. These spatio-temporal differences are considered important for the scope of the article for both their display of the transformation of urban profiles and context and both the display of the transformative value of the urban context. </span></p>
