Summary: | This paper addresses Africa´s position in Brazil´s political agenda and its
foreign trade between 1985 and 2005. It analyzes the evolution of Brazilian
foreign policy on the continent, from its initial formulation by Itamaraty in the
1960s, to the present, which is characterized by the ambivalent government
actions of the presidencies of Fernando Henrique Cardoso and Luis Inácio
