| Summary: | In this article intra-regional mobility in Central America is interpreted as one of the axes of the relationship between the regional and the global, resulting in the reconfiguration of regional scenes and new implications for citizenship. The author starts from the assumption that the Central American region, consisting of seven small countries, has experienced a series of territorial and regional transitions that explain the evolution of migratory flows. Thus, migration is part of a set of transnational social practices that are first processes transcending borders between the territories of nation-states and then a feature of the inclusion of these societies in global dynamics. In a historical-structural perspective, the analysis of historical, socio-political and economic processes identifies on the one hand relations between the historical formation of the region and its societies, and on the other hand population movements that take place in a heterogeneous and changing regional migration system. This system emphasizes the subordinate and peripheral condition of the region in a system dominated by the US and the highly confrontational, contradictory and fragmented character, as territory as well as on a socio-political and cultural level, of the regional formation known as Central America, despite its apparently homologous manifestations.
