Description
Summary:Temporality is rarely used as a point of view to consider the relationship between interaction and structure. However, it is a heuristic way to combine different scales of observation. This paper offers a framework of analysis, centered on a model of meshed processes. It considers action as « a motive in search of a sanction ». The immediate « interactional » stakes, as well as the long-run, « structural » stakes, are meshed together : satisfying the latter is both a condition and a regulation of the satisfaction of the former. Several implications, that are as many theoretical reminders that can prove useful to build a research, are applied to an empirical case : a free jazz show. Describing the interactional form, as a prerequisite and as a test mechanism, allows us to combine the plurality of stakes that people carry along with them. This analysis aims to establish, for each of them, the temporal horizons of their social scopes.
