Description
Summary:This paper studies Cuba’s presence in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) from documents reviewed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs archive. Internal and external motivations which Cuba claimed in order to obtain the leadership of NAM are established and anti-imperialism is identified as the banner which allowed the simultaneous gathering of its identities as a non-aligned country, socialist and underdeveloped. The crisis in Afghanistan questioned this anti-imperialism, henceforth debilitating Cuban status within the Movement.
