Through the textual analysis of “Wei xiang” a Sinophone Malaysian short story by Ding Yun, the paper argues that Sinophone Malaysian fiction, by presenting Malaysia in its ethnic diversity, transcends the official label of sectional, ethnic or community-based literature.
