Summary: | This article shows the complex nature of a fishermen’s community of Venice in the early modern period, called the Nicolotti, and its agency. This paper aims to analyze the role of the social group within the economic activities of the city in order to find out how this function structures the community. Besides, these fishermen seem to act like a collective being that interacts with Venetian institutions. The latter become more and more established as a close entity able to regulate the daily supplies of the city. In this particular case, it concerns the fish market, from fishing in the lagoon to retail. |
