Summary: | This article proposes to analyze different memory devices concerning former uranium mines in France—from their closure (1990s) to the present day. Through a sociological study articulating the analysis of semi-directive interviews with actors of these mechanisms and the analysis of archives, we will highlight three logics that constitute central elements in the environmental monitoring of former uranium mines in France: trace, traceability. We will then see that if heritage constitutes an obvious element of production and transmission of memory, the controversy surrounding the management of mining waste rock contributing to the regulation of this memory through a “relativism of memory”. |
