Within the framework of regional studies, both traditional and classical theories and new theoretical approaches to the problems of regional development are systematized and typologized. The article presents a fragmentary review of new theories and concepts of regional growth, including: the concept of sustainable development, cluster concept, the concept of "smart specialization", regional foresight, paradigms of studying the region as a quasi-state, quasi-Corporation, market area and region-society. The attention is focused on the theories of regional development cyclicity and studies related to the analysis of economic dynamics.
