Description
Summary:This article is about the legal prohibition of family mediation in cases of gender violence in Spain and how professionals in the field manage it. Stemming from equality, autonomy and individual responsibility, mediation is seen very positively in our society of individualism, where men and women are assumed to be equal. We present the results of an investigation based on semi-structured interviews with social and legal experts in Catalonia. Various and opposite ways to think violence exist. That leads to different positioning towards the use or not of mediation in cases of violence. Therefore, uncertainty appears in the implementation of the institutional system of struggle against gender violence in Spain.
