Summary: | The aim of this paper is to analyze the notion of éthos by using the phenomena of linguistic polyphony. The study is based on the third poem of Some Thing Black, composed by French contemporary poet Jacques Roubaud, as well as Alix’s Journal, the journal of his late wife Alix Cleo Roubaud. First, by targeting the main strategies of polyphony in the poem of Jacques Roubaud, diversity and graduality are particularly observed. Second, studying the image of the speaker-author in the poem, a result occurs: several postures link to several different levels of polyphony. This paper proposes to receive this plurality as itself, since the poetic project of the whole volume is to communicate complex aspects of grieving. |
