Summary: | Aims: To evaluate radiographically, the presence or absence of nutrient canals in controls and patients with periodontal diseases, and to correlate the number of nutrient canals with severity of bone loss.
Materials and methods: A total number of 1000 patients were enrolled, in that 500 patients were of study group and 500 of control group, in both the group, intraoral periapical radiographs were taken in relation to mandibular anterior region by paralleling technique.
Results: Nutrient canals were observed in 7% of the control group and 61% of periodontitis patients. Nutrient canals were seen more in advanced age group in chronic periodontitis with bone loss of more than 2/3rd of root length.
Conclusions: The prevalence of nutrient canals was higher in patients with periodontitis. As age advanced, prevalence was more. Increased frequency of nutrient canals of 3 or more than 3 was seen with increased seventy of bone loss. |
