The study of language use that take into account the speaker and its performance, is a field developed in Brazilian linguistic research, however there is still as much to discover and understand about the language process use.. This work is based on this perspective and focuses on the deletion of the phoneme / d / in gerundial verbs in Brazilian Portuguese, both in urban and rural varieties of Portuguese in Santana do Ipanema. This research looks to systematization, and demonstration that linguistic and extralinguistic factors are influences in these variants production. Therefore, this work is grounded in the theory of variation of William Labov, and the results were obtained through voice recordings by speakers member of the speech community studied.
