Description
Summary:Ibar's book Genio y Lengua (1935) helped to confirm the theory that the northern and southern Basque literatures had not only followed different paths but that these paths, led by Axular and Larramendi, respectively, were opposed as well. Ibar's theory about Larramendi has been refuted in these last years. This paper is a first attempt to put into question Ibar's interpretation of Axular and the northern literature. It also seeks to bring out, with new data, the importance that the knowledge of the northern literary and language phenomena had in the creation and successive evolution of postlarramendian southern literary dialects.
