Because of typical signs, these diseases can be usually easily differentiated. However, 10% of chronic wounds are caused by specific rare diseases, such as vasculitis, specific infections, skin cancer, or calciphylaxis. Calciphylaxis is a rare cause of chronic wounds, and it is usually found in patients with end-stage renal disease.
