Summary: | The use of information and communication technologies (ICT) has collaborated with changes in the ways of communication used in health institutions. This article bases on a study that examines the development of online information services on the primary health care in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, analysing the Otics-Rio - Observatório de Tecnologia de Informaç̃ e Comunicaç̃ em Sistemas e Serviçs de Saúde (Observatory of Information and Communication Technology in Health Systems and Services), later replaced by the Asas-Rio - Ambientes de Saberes e Aprendizagens em Saúde (Environments of Health Knowledge and Learning). The analyse of these environments based on six basic characteristics of online communication: interactivity, hypertextuality, personalization, multimediality/convergence, memory and instantaneity. It was observed that the communication established has a diffusionist tendency especially in the blogs, evidencing that the use of the TIC can produce improvements but also tend to the reproduction of old models and senses of communication and health.
