Summary: | This article studies representations of the city of Recife and its
surroundings in three different period of the twentieth century, through
three different writers and three literary genres: Luc Durtain who was a
well-known writer and traveler of the 1930’s (Vers la ville Kilomètre 3,
1933); the sociologist Roger Bastide, who lived in Brazil for a very long
time (Brésil terre des contrastes, 1957); and the novelist Jean-Christophe
Rufin (La Salamandre, 2005). This article focuses on the common
elements between these texts concerning the image they present of Recife,
as well as on the particularities related to the literary styles. |
